Buses Versus Vans

Buses Versus Vans which one is better on my budget and safer? You may have asked yourself this question and here are a few helpful tips and ideas you should think about when considering either one for purchase.

It is illegal for a dealership to sell a new 15 passenger van to any public, private school or church for transporting students. The National Transportation Safety Board has come against these vehicles in a strong way. There has been many cases of deaths in the past decade involving one or more of these vans rolling over. These vans are no longer insurable by many insurance companies and there is no structural support in the van's roof so if the van does roll, it will cave in and cause many injuries or death to the passengers.

On the other hand, buses can be a safer and a better alternative than these 15 passenger vans. Buses come with a steel cage construction. This means that steel is supporting the side walls and the ceiling. Buses have undergone rigorous federal safety testing and they meet and exceed the list of standards

required, such as each vehicle is equipped with dual rear wheels which make them more stable.

In most states you don't have to obtain a CDL to operate a vehicle if it seats 15 or fewer people and weighs less than 16,000 lbs. Commercial driver's licenses are more expensive and sometimes difficult to obtain as well.

The cost of a 15 passenger bus is usually about $3,000 to $5,000 more expensive than the same sized van. However, the shuttle bus has a much longer life on the road and is less expensive to keep up. The per passenger and per mile transportation cost can be less for a small bus than for a 15 passenger van.

You will need to look into safety and financial issues when thinking about purchasing a van or bus. Many people have found that leasing a shuttle bus is less or equal to the cost of a van lease. The government has very strict safety rules for vehicles that transport students. Vehicles that meet up to these strict standards are called school bus constructed. Visit small shuttle buses verses passenger vans for more help. Refer to this information when looking to purchase transportation of this type and when considering buses versus vans.
